Just got my 06 F150 about a month ago and had a question about the throttle response. Driving it around you cant really tell, but if you just rev it up you can tell it has what I would call a hesitation with my old carb trucks. I don't know if this is normal, or what seeing that I've never drove a fuel injected truck before.
it must be the electronic throttle control, and my thoughts are that each individual pickup exhibits more or less of the hesitation to a degree
i drove 5 different f150s before buying mine, and a couple felt slightly hesitant, but the others, including the one i bought, don't exhibit a hesitation in my opinion
i've heard a lot of owners talking about the hesitation and many, including my brother in law, speak very highly of tuners for correcting the hesitation
honestly, i don't feel it in mine and it's stock except for the glasspack that i put in place of the muffler...my wife's cars have all been etc, but my old pickup was throttle cable, and my avalanche was throttle cable, and the avalanche had hesitation really bad--i didn't keep it long enough to adjust the cable, but even the other gm pickups i drove had it to a degree--felt pretty pronounced to me
..then again, i think the way the throttle is depressed has a lot to do with it, and i imagine i've compensated to account for any hesitation by the way i push the pedal before punching it
I drive in alot of stop and go traffic and I find the hesitation to be pretty useful once you get used to it. If you just tap the throttle it won't go. I can see it being a pain in an emergency situation tho.
....and it can be very annoying when it's slick out. The pedal sometimes "loads up" and gets jumpy after the first bit of hesitation.
An Edge on #2 setting fixed it in my '04 (the main reason I bought the Edge) and my '06 isn't as bad from the factory (Edge is on it, with no tune yet, level 0.....waiting until after the 1st 3-5k miles for the engine to wear in some before I program it).
Well, I can see that It's definatley not just me. I guess I probably would have never noticed it if my truck had been an automatic, but I can definatley tell on the stick. Hesitations are one of my pet peeves on my older engines.
I hate to say it but I owned a 98 corvette with the fly by wire and it was dead on for throttle response.

I just had the TSB 6 19 3 done and it cured hesitaton before high speed passing. Prior to the service, I would hit the gas to pass, & the truck would "think" for a few seconds before accelerating....was annoying.
mine had a lot of hesitation before I put the CAI on it. Most of the hesitation is gone, but I also get that "Wait and think" on the highway also. I'm just waiting until tax time to buy a tuner. Then the 93 octane fun will begin
most people drive their vehicle like it will bite them and will never notice these things. also, the 5.4 is jumpy and I know mine can rip the rear tires loose without trying.
