My friend is home for christmas, in his 2005 F350 XL 6.0L. He is having some bizarre electrical problems that started when he put in LED switchbacks, and he sent me this text today. He put in an LED flasher relay today which fixed the fast blink issue..but nothing else.
"Headlight switch off, Left signal switchback works correctly, Right signal flashes Right yellow but also left white, signals and hazards make cab lights flash. Brakes make running lights and instrument panel lights come on. Headlight switch on, L & R signal relay clicks and switchbacks turn yellow but do not flash...still not sure if reverse lights work either"
He bought these switchbacks from SuperBrightLEDS, and everyone i know has had good luck from that company
I am going to have him swap the old bulbs back in, and see what happens, but i dont see how LED switchbacks would cause this light show
Not sure that is a "light bulb" issue!! Did he by chance install a heat sink or additional relay in the system?? Possible the relay has the load side connected wrong
This happened before the relay...the relay was just for the hyper flash. He hates electrical, so all he has done is swap in the led switchbacks in the headlights, and led tail and reverse lights.
I'm guessing that the right model bulb was not ordered.
Superbrightleds site for that year/make/model shows two options, and has an explanation of how they're different. I think the wrong one could backfeed power thru the circuits as you described. I don't know the entire circuit, or the circuit inside the bulb, but it's a guess. A quick meter check and comparison to the bulb could help troubleshoot.
You nailed it. His superbright leds i trusted, but he had amazon LED tail lights which i didnt know about. I pulled those out and put my stock halogen bulbs in...worked perfect. Thank you
