Differences between 2005-2007 and 2008-2010?

Apologies if this has been covered - I tried searching but my google-fu is weak...

I had a 2005 F-250 4x4 CC SWB and loved it. Sold it years ago, but will be in the market for a new (to me) truck in the next year. One of the options I'd like to explore is a 250/350 (I don't care which), crew cab, with the V10. Not interested in the diesel as it does not fit my purposes. I also don't care either way on wheelbase other than the shortbed would be easier to park.

I'm trying to determine the differences between the 2005-07 trucks and the 2008-2010 models beyond appearance. From what I understand, the gas drivelines are identical in all these years (3V, Torq-shift tranny). Aside from the updated cabin and sheetmetal, is there any reason to go with the '08+? (though they are purty!)

Many thanks!!

Besides the "appearance" items you mentioned, the suspensions are also different, and the '08+ have a better ride (like many things it's a bit subjective)
The "new" front-end is because the front-frame geometry is different - to avoid having to have a 'blocker' beam behind/beneath the front bumper, the entire front frame is lower, thus springs, sway bar/links, shocks, etc. are likely different.

The rear leaf springs are longer on the 08+ and the front mount is obviously in a different spot. Not sure if the axle is changed.

'08+ have PATS (so they should be stolen much less often)

Being only 3 years for the '08-'10 means less parts cross-over, where as the '99-'07 has much more part interchangeability and thus availability.

Thanks Misky, that's what I was looking for - I thought it likely that there were updates under the surface, but I couldn't find anything that stated it definitively. Sounds like I'll have to take a good look at prices and test drive when the time comes.

Shocks are the same. Leafsprings are 8" longer. You can put the longer leafsprings on an 05-07 truck with some time and effort. 11+ leafsprings are even better than 08-10 for ride comfort.

Front of the frame was changed in '08 to accommodate an increase in the overall cooling capacity, compared to thr '05-'07 trucks.

What is this referring to? I'm not following, though with a statement like that I'm certainly like to understand what you mean...

They squat. Alot.
Especially the three leaf 250 pack.
I should have quoted Super, and he should have quoted Ford BH.

"They" = 2005-2007 or 2008-2010? I swear, reading this forum is sometimes like talking to my 14 year old daughter, the language is English but you get the feeling you're only hearing half of a conversation...

Interchangeable and available, like what?

05-07 were different front ends, suspension, wheels, etc than 99-04

Ah. I may consider an '11 just to get the 6.2, but we'll have to see what prices look like when the shopping turns serious. For my needs, I will be going with a 4wd crew cab and a gas motor (6.8 or 6.2); the diesels just scare the hell out of me with the potential for big money repairs.

The truck will be my daily driver, and I have two kids that play travel hockey (winter) and travel softball/baseball (summer) so I am always hauling equipment bags, extra players, etc. And hockey generally means I'm on the road to all sorts of garden spots in the dead of winter (thus the 4wd requirement). Also considering an Excursion, but the newest one is an even older platform, doesn't have the Torqshift or 3V heads, etc. At the end of the day, I'm going to have to figure if paying more for a pickup makes sense, or buy a good Ex (assuming I can find one) and put $$ into it. Decisions, decisions... one thing I know for sure, I will not be buying new and I am absolutely not a lease candidate - 28K on my current vehicle in one year, and I was laid up with medical issues for almost 3 months...
