I'm currently working on a project truck (1984 f-250 6.9 diesel) but after I finish this project I want to build another 6.9 diesel but with a possible stepside but I was wondering if there is any way to make a longbed stepside instead of the classic shortbed alternative because I like the idea of longbed stepsides... I've seen the older longbed stepsides but I like the wheel wells better on the bullnose body styles. So is there anyway to make a longbed stepside and keep the dual fuel tanks?
Look around for a older truck bed from the 70's. I know chevy made 8ft stepside longbeds back then. I think Ford did too, and I bet it might bolt right on.
Stepside? Ford Don't make no Stepside, Ford made Flaresides
Might be hard to find one Flareside Bed, tougher to Find two.
As said the rear fiberglass fenders can be a challenge to find. (at least they don't rust!)
Ford did make long bed Flaresides prior to 1980, but the OP said he was looking for the bullnose rear fenders. Getting that in a long bed will require custom fabrication.

Never done it before, but probably a little hole drilling and filling would do it.
I had an idea about it now I was just wondering if anyone would know if it would be possible. So my idea is get an old 1970s longbed stepside and replace the fenders with reproduction dually wells for a 80-97 dually. Would it even be possible and what would I have to cut/make for it to work? Thanks for any help
The 60's, 70's Flareside longbed is like the 80's flareside bed, the walls are flat, You CAN NOT mount Dually Flares on it since the duallys mounting surface is arched just like a styleside bed.
The 6'foot Flareside fenders are an animal of their own and not compatible with Dually beds.

I found reproduction dually flares with flat backs on them if they would work?
I put 80 to 86 flareside fenders on my 67 shortbed flareside years ago. Finding the longbed flareside box will probably be more difficult than finding flareside fenders.
If you get them they will mate up with some new drilled bolt holes. You can weld the 80's flareside metal step to the longbed metalstep.
Not sure what you mean by "flat backs" if they are vertical in the front and rear walls, they are not for dually's.
Photo please?
I have two spare sets of Flareside fenders as spares for my 85, 'cause there are no reproductions for the 80's Flareside bed.
According to my wife, "I don't know much" but I do know flaresides, having rebuilt 3 of them.....(the one shown, I have now, I built from "spare parts"!)
I thought they were they might not be but being fiberglass couldn't I sand them down to fit flush with the bed?
I guess you could but there is more to it than "sand them down to fit flush with the bed" you will need to add a fiber glass lip as that is where the bolts go to hold it to the walls.
As for the walls if you cant find a good used one for an older LB truck you will need a 2nd bed side walls or can buy 3 new walls and use the 3rd to add to the other 2 walls to make a LB body.
Any way you look at it you will be making parts for this to happen.
