its a 96 psd ,so sitting at idle not moving in park my truck every once and a while decides to shut off with no warning ,no spudering or coughing ,just stalls.it starting to do it more and more often. my first thoughts are cam position scencer .but not sure ,any one have this problem or any idea what this might be
it could be the cam sensor, was it done with the recall? any strange noises that have come out of the blue? maybe the idm is going out? just some ideas to think about.
Check for codes. If the CPS is going out, it will set a code. Post the codes on here and we'll help you get them figured out. After you fix all of the problems that set a code, make sure you clear the codes.
When my "95 started to stall at traffic lights & would drop a bank out just going down the road & buck & sputter, there were no codes set. I scanned it with a OBS 2, no codes. The CEL never came on.
I took a chance & replaced the CPS. This cured my problem, & the truck ran better.
dont have a code reader is there a way to read the codes without ? the engine light has yet to come on any time these problems occur ,this may be sound dumb but what is the IDM
Go to the ford dealer and get a cps. Its good to have a spare anyway. Cheap and easy to replace. They don't always set check engine lights.
IDM stands for injector driver module. It sends electricity to the injectors to open and close the solenoids
I wouldn't buy one from Ford, especially if they are still peddling the gray ones. I'd try Clay at Riffraff Diesel or Bob at Diesel O-rings and see if they still have any IH black CPS's available.

There is the original black one, the light gray one, and the new dark gray/purple one. There is also a blue one that some people use that was designed for the DT466.
