Cool Anyone ever been to a tractor pull?

I have been going to the "Liberty Antique Tractor Pull" for about a year now. They have M model Farmalls, John Deeres, Massey-Furgeson, Allis-Chalmers, and even a few flathead ford tractors, and stock and super stock and turbo classes. Well those are all fine and good, but I go to see the trucks. These things all have big blocks, big rig rear axels, and 2 transmissions. Must be naturally asperated-no nitrous or super or turbo charging. They have 2wd and 4x4 classes, and weight classes from 4500-10,500 lbs for the tractors and trucks, increasing by 1000's. The sled they pull is a home made contraption. Its hard to describe, but they have a weight that moves closer to the front of the sled the farther down the track they go, effectivly putting more weight on the 4' by 8' flat sled than the rear tires. So if you are ever in Georgis on a saturday and need something to do, drop me a line!!

Anyone ever been to a tractor pull?

oh...the memories...we used to go all the time when I was a kid. we would go here to the local one and for several years would drive to Fort Worth, TX for the National Championship (i think) tractor pull. that was the coolest thing to watch.

haven't seen any in forever...thought they had even quit doing them until the other day I was flipping thru the channels at lunch time and saw one on ESPN2. talk about a sport !!!

The only tractor pulls I really enjoy are the old fashioned right out of the field pulls.

That means working tractors only, not souped up modified machines.

Even the so called antique tractor pullers are modifying their machines from barely noticiable to the absurd.

I know times change! As do hobbies!

I know of more than one WC that has been so over bored that the water jacket is now filled with concrete. Try running that tractor in the field and see how long it would hold up.

In my opinion stock should mean stock, as in fresh from the factory.

It has even gotten to the point that machines with steel wheel are turned away.

Far and few between are the old style pulls these days.

Everybody has their fun in theri own way.

Thats is why I won't pull my restored "factory stock" WC!

I only participate in demo- fun pulls only.

These are all stock tractors for the most part, and VERY little money is involved, so I would see little motivation to cheat, and I am quite sure that most of the guys take the tractors home and work them in the feilds. It is more common for a tractor to run out of traction before it runs out of power. There are some that are heavily modified, and rather absurd. One even has a roll cage(and he needs it- he flies down the track doing about 30 MPH!! ). But I think that this place is one of the few and far betweens that you mentioned for the most part. Most all of the owners invite and love for you to come up and look at the tractors, same with the trucks. There are few restrictions on the trucks, and some of them are wild. But the best part is is that 80% of them are fords.
Fisher- I am not sure that we are talking about the same kind of tractor pull- check out this picture-

muchtomydelight.....
that's the one....john deer, international, case....they were all there...red ones, green ones, blue ones...we used to have them in the outdoor arena. some of them would have the exhaust pipes all modified and coming up over the top. the one I saw on ESPN actually had a long hose...kinda like the vent hose on a dryer that sucked the black smog out of the arena they were in.

OK, I thought that you might have been thinking of those that have the big tractor trailers and the mud pits and all that in a civic center.

I am the "hooker" for the Outlaw Hot Rod Pulling Assoc. here and love it! The trucks and tractors are fun to watch but IMHO nothing beats the Mini Rods we run for a show!!!
We have our own custom built sled that weighs as much as 16,000 Lbs... Here is our website!
You might want to turn your sound down a little bit. Let me know what ya'll think.

I just bought an old pull truck and converted it to a mud bogger. Built a 4 link for the rear. Worked good, made mostly 4 sec passes through the pit. Fun toy.

Anyone ever been to a tractor pull?

I remember going to tractor pulls when a big sled was pulled and people would be lined up along the path and would jump on to add weight to the sled. The further it went, the more people that would jump on. Now that's an old fashion tractor pull, and yes the tractors were stock right out of the field.

We had a Farmall F-20 that we used in the field, but we never took it to the tractor pulls. My brother in law used to take his "Johnny popper" to the pulls. We also had a small Ford tractor that had the hydraulic drawbar and loader on the front. Quite the thing in those days.

When they first came out, the Fords would chain their drawbar to the other tractor's drawbar, lift it up enough for the other tractor to break traction and pull the other tractor down the field, just a flying. Course it didn't take long for the other guys to figure out what was happening, but it sure raised some eyebrows till they did..

Anyone ever been to a tractor pull?

Around here, every August is an event called the Toledo Threshing Bee, complete with a tractor pull. No modifieds, just stock, from-the-field tractors and lots of the local boys run. My grandfather has a John Deere model D that pulls pretty darn hard in the 2-hole class and I run his Oliver 2150 in the unlimited class. Five of my neighbors also run at that pull almost every year...it's a hell of a lot of fun.
