Anyone else have to deal with idiot children, I am currently arguing with a 9 year old over a joystick or what he thinks is a joystick that is in our dumpster.
because he has a really bad habit of leaving the trash items all over the yard, then when we get time to cut the grass we bend blades left and right.... We don't have much time between work, rain and dark to mow, so it's not unusual to have to mow it down from 12 inches tall.
If he associates a Sore butt with bringing trash into the yard on a consistent basis he may decide that the cost \benefit ratio is not in his favor. sk

pfogle,
That reminds me of when I was a young boy. I lost, broke, or misused every tool my dad owned. By the time I moved out, he barely had a straight screwdriver to his name. Now that I'm an adult with an extensive tool collection, I give him the third degree whenever he wants to borrow one of my tools!! I guess we've gone full circle!!!
skuteman,
thank you, thank you, thank you.
If more parents would paddle their kids fannies once in a while instead of just the "heart to heart - I"m your friend, not your parent - talk" then this world would be a much nicer place. I got lots of spankings, was grounded for what seems like half my childhood, slapped, stood in the corner for another quarter of my childhood and despite this I still enjoyed my pre-teen years. While I HATED all the discipline at the time I KNOW this has made me a better person and I fully intend to use the same methods on my children (if God gives us any!) It always bites me when we eat out or do anything in public and are surrounded by other people's brats. My sister-in-law has the worst of all. 2 horrible little boys that have absolutely NO manners. They always invite us to go places and do things with them and we of course always come up with some reason that we're busy. How can we tell her, "Sorry, we don't want to go cause your kids are obnoxious and rude and it not only annoys us but embarasses us that other people have to put up with them too???" I don't think that would go over very well. ??? Hahahahah. Thanks though. Keep giving out that great advice!

Idiot children.
Apparently, the butt's not sore enough... either that, or the kid's a masochist ! I guess throwing it out works for discipline if the sore butt doesn't (no sense in beating the kid, after all).

I'm not an advocate of hitting idiots on the head -- just scrambles things even worse! Seriously, though, a smack on the bum & a crack to the head are very different... there's a line between discipline & abuse. I'm asuming your crack upside the head was not forceful... I can tell you personally I HATED that. 'Till this day I don't like being hit on the head, even in jest. Nothing pisses me off worse. In fact, as a child I would go out of my way to disobey if the punishment was a smack upside the head.
In more recent years, I scared one of my friends into nearly pissing their pants when they smacked me upside the head in jest. My violent reaction (screaming, angry, red face) to that, along with my fist going up ready to punch (I caught myself and stopped before I could deliver the blow) even surprised me. My friend had never seen me that angry before, and has obviously never touched my head since. That's just how much I can't stand when someone touches my head... unless it's a lady playing with my hair, stroking my ear, etc...
In any case, my point is don't smack the kid upside the head... as someone who hated it enough to rebell against any instruction that accompained this action, I for one will tell you it won't work. Throwing the offending item out, along with a promise to throw out anything else that is found in the wrong place, should work better. Good luck.
I deal with idiot parents far more than with idiot kids - the kids are just confused. I would like to take a paddle to the parents who allow their precious children to do anything they want, then complain because they can't control them.. Parents - UGHHHHH
I agree.. a slap upside the head is more of an insult and likely to draw more rebellion than a whack on the butt. Now Im not against a little "boot therapy" now and then, but I think a firm NO and follow thru with it may be the answer. After all, it was in the trash...it probably doesn't even work. " I told ya NO and I meant NO. End of subject. Next time I catch you digging in the trash, yer grounded for a week."
Besides possibly getting cut and infected in a trash can, who knows what other germs or viruses he could pick up in there?
Also, in this day of teachers and strangers watching for " child abuse " , bruises, etc. I'd be really careful. You could end up in court and spending a lot of money defending your actions, whether you deserve it or not. Ya gotta remember, in a lot of schools, teachers pass kids to the next grade, even if he don't deserve it, so it won't hurt his self esteme. (sp?) Blah on that too.
