Injector Choice

Hi everybody I am new to posting on FTE but that's about it. I was an automotive and light truck mechanic for awhile and now I am a locomotive diesel mechanic ( 2 stroke detroits). I do know 7.3's and my way around them quite well. I've looked at tons of threads but I can't find exactly what I'm looking for. I'm just having a hard time choosing injectors for it. They are getting wore out and I will need some new ones soon.

My Truck:

1997 F250
229xxx mi.
SCLB
ZF5
4X4
4' lift 35's
4.10 gears
6637 filter
3 inch downpipe
riff raff billet compressor wheel
riff raff High Pressure Oil Crossover
riff raff fuel banjo bolts
Pyro gauge
Boost gauge
edge evolution tuner (I plan on getting a 6 pos chip and custom tunes with the new injectors)
and I plan on getting a boost fooler

The injectors I was looking at were:
150/146 (baby swamps)
160/146 (Full force)
160/30% (rosewood)

I plan on keeping my stock 15* HPOP until it quits (then a T500), my stock turbo(with that wheel, of course), and my stock mechanical fuel pump ( it's only a few months and and has good fuel pressure). I would do Efuel but the cheapest way I could would be $300 and I don't want to spend the money ( I'm in the middle of buying a house and paying for a wedding ).

I would like 160/30's but will my stock HPOP hold up to it and will my stock mechanical fuel pump be enough to feed it? If not I'm torn between 160/146 or 150/146. How much of a difference would 10cc's of fuel make? I lean more towards the baby swamps (150/146) because of the 5yr 200,000 mi. warranty. Thanks for the input guys!

I pull heavy and run the 160/30 rosewoods. I believe the stock turbo will hold up for awhile but I don't think the stock hpop will keep up.

You work on for a living what I used to run!

Damn I might have to see if I can scrounge up the money for an hpop. I take it the mechanical fuel pump would be enough?

That's awesome! I take it you were an engineer?

You might be able to find a 17° hpop off of a SD to put in fairly cheap. I have electric fuel but I 'think' the mechanical pump will keep up. Someone should be along to answer that question better. yep, an engineer for 30 years, retired!

I've read that the mechanical pump is good up to 400-450 HP range, I think it was Diesel Power mag. As long as your not at a constant 32+ psi the turbo should hold, your hoop might not be up to task, you have a benefit since your truck is a 97, just find a Super Duty 17° pump and slap it on there.

Not a chance. With stock stixs I could get to under 30 psi on a hard pull @29lbs.

I would be far more worried about proper fuel pressure to keep those stixs properly lubricalubricated and cooled.

And 450 on stage ones is unlikely also.

Do this right or just wait. Your engine will thank you.

I ran 180/80's on a up to par stock fuel system and on WOT pull it wouldn't dip below 55psi.

Jim doesn't recommend the 1.5's with the stock charger

Thanks for the input guys! It sounds like as long as I keep an eye on fuel pressure it should be alright but the stock turbo and hpop wouldn't be up to the task with 30% nozzles. If I'm ever not at work and get a chance I'll give Jim a call and see what he says.
Now my question is how much of a difference would 10cc's of fuel make with those stock nozzles?

with a new fuel pump and shimmed regulator that gave 75psi at idle on a hard pull my stockers would pull pressure under 30. I always got out of it when it got down like that. Do what you want but my experience is efuel on anything with more than stock tuning.
