460 exhaust question

I want to put a new exhaust on my truck. Say i buy a flowmaster super 40. Can I run it with only like 3 feet of exhaust tube running out the back? I ask because I want to weld it up myself without having to mess with tube bender and what not. Just bench weld it and bolt it on essentially.

--- is exhaust tube
<==> is cat then muffler

-----<===>----<==>---

So cat^ muffler^ then ~3ft straight exhaust tube out the end

I've got a flowmaster 50 after the cat. Just a turndown/dump on the muffler. Not sure if that answers your question. Same engine.

So it just dumps out right after the muffler? Hows it sound and run?

Yes. Sounds good, deep tone but not loud really which I like. I'm sure the cat quiets it down considerably. Has a nice deep idle tone but once moving not very noticeable. A downshift on the hwy while towing actually makes more "air" noise than rumble.
