Some guys would probably get a 10 or 11' bed if offered. I think cclb looks perfect although the shorter beds can look fine. I think a 6 door/10-11' box would look good too.
My personal opinion is that anything in or on a vehicle should be securely fastened. Putting stuff in the box without tying it down should be a hefty fine like it would be for commercial vehicles. That is coming from someone who works on the commercial side of things. I have no problems with the 5 1/2 foot box the 6 3/4 box or the 8 foot box. They all have their place and their uses. 6 3/4 is a nice size for me and when I need to haul something long I just hook onto my 24 foot trailer and I can haul much more than a 8 foot box ever could. People are lazy (me included) and I often consider when i put stuff in my box that oh thats heavy enough it won't blow out but then I think what if I roll over and it goes off my truck and hits someone else. Just my 2 cents.
I like the long bed. Some people like the short bed because of where they have to park it, and 1,000 other reasons. That's why they make different configurations. If they didn't, we'd all look alike, right? Boring. I pull a fifth wheel and need the bed length for turn radii. I also have a tool box and an aux tank. Could I get along with the short bed? Probably. But it's got to look good too. I think the long bed with the crew cab has good proportions.
Crew cab long box all day long. Had one CCSB (2001) and will never do it again. Constantly ran out of bed space.
my 08 had the bed extenders and I seemed to use those at least once a week. I need to get an extender kit for my 17, but I don't like the one ford offers for it, they cut the corner so much that it's not even worth it.
Also, as was said above, if they offered an 11' bed I'd get it in a second, 12'? Yup, bring it on.
I never understood the issue with parking, back the dang thing in, if you're worried about parking, buy a smart car.

Exactly!
If your concerns are parking, a parking garage, drive thru's, will it fit in your garage, etc. you probably don't need or shouldn't have a truck.
If I was going with an SRW, I'd get the 8' bed. It rides a lot nicer, tows better, and the extra 14 gallons of fuel is great. The 59' turning circle is unfortunate though. I definitely noticed that each time I test drove one.
I hope to never see anything like this driving down the road. Ford would have to relocate the fuel filler door as well as its gone in this bed length.
A hobby of mine has always been Internet culture and I've seen many a scary photoshop.... but none do I rarely give a second though to. This, however, will haunt me for years. Thanks.
I plan on pulling the trigger on a 2017 SD after the new year. Every morning I wake up and change my mind on bed length. I wonder what a 7.3' bed option would look like for you photo shop guys...
My previous SD was an 2004 CCLB manual trans and I didn't have any issues maneuvering/parking it, even driving it in San Francisco. I'm married now and my wife will be driving the truck just as much or more than me hauling nothing but our 6 week old baby. With that being said; she sure would prefer the short bed and she wants all the fancy 360 cameras which is something I'd rather save money an opt out of. Our long term goal is to get a slide in camper and all though there's good short bed camper options now days, there's still a lot more long bed options, especially used. I also like the idea that I can haul 3 dirt bikes with the tail gate up on a long bed.
On the subject of bed length; Earlier this week I saw an F350 dually CCLB and the guy had taken crew cab off and put a standard cab on the frame. He took another bed, cut it up and added it to the LB to give him 10-12' of total bed. Kinda fun to see, unfortunately I was driving and wasn't able to snap a picture of it.
My 2017 will be a short bed, just like the 2001 7.3L it is replacing. After 15 years, I never needed a long bed on my truck. Mostly because the other farm truck is a long bed. If I need a long bed, I have one. If I need a short bed, I have one. Having choices is a wonderful thing!
Real trucks have 8 foot beds. I can't even understand why most trucks on the road seam to have sissy 6.5 beds.....just having fun guys, don't attack me....I know I'm outnumbered

If your going to be driving in San Fransico i would highly recommend you spend the money on the 360 camera, especially if you end up with a long bed. It makes backing into tight spaces so easy. If you're already proud of your ability to park that rig wait and see what you can do with the cameras. Don't tell her I said it but your wife might be right on this one.

Hahaha You're probably right! I'll have to play with them sometime.
I don't drive in SF often anymore, but I was doing deliveries there all the time in the past.

I would like to agree. I have been backing trailers my entire life, since before I had a license. Some of the places I have to back, 90 degree turn into narrow lane, without enough depth to allow me to get straight without a 50 point turn. I’m pretty good at it, but thankful for the shorter wheelbase on the new truck. My own driveway used to be the worst. Dang Crewcab long bed was 3 feet longer than the driveway with the trailer.
I considered Supercab w/ 8 ft bed, but it just wouldn’t get it for me. I’m sure there will be times where the shorter bed is going to cost me extra trips. It will still be worth it.
