New alarm system installed..
Then you have to purchase a 1 or 3 year subscription to activate the GPS and smart start functions because it uses your cellphone and has to connect up with the Verizon towers..
It's $100/year if you purchase the yearly plan or $240 for 3 years..
Works flawlessly and being to control the alarm and remote start functions via cellphone is pretty slick, you also have a GPS map indicating the current location of your vehicle so let's say you let your kids borrow the car you can monitor where they go and how long they stay there, you can monitor vehicle speed..
You can add modules to control the windows, perimeter sensors, programmable voice modules, backup battery siren..
The only thing i added was the glass breakage sensor with microphone, tap on the glass too hard and it triggers the alarm but it's not affected by rain..
Is the GPS only shown on the smart phone, or does it have a on-board screen?
Understand that the GPS is a fully activated "tracker" device, which maybe good or not?
The real question is........is the Viper only serviced thru Verizon, meaning that your smart phone also needs Verizon as the carrier, or can it be accessed thru other carriers??
There is no onboard screen, location is monitored using the cellphone and provided GPS map..
The only time it is tracking is when the GPS on your phone is activated and you send a "locate vehicle" request to the system, it isn't watching your every move, unless you want it too..
The Smart Start system uses Verizon towers but i use Boost Mobile which uses Sprint towers so I'm not sure how it's tied together but I'm paying for the use of the Verizon towers..
When i use the phone to arm the system it takes about 15 seconds to make the trip to the towers, back to my alarm, back to the towers then back to my phone with a "system is armed" confirmation..
