does anyone know where the windshields leak/rot out on these trucks?
i have started to notice a wet carpet under the park brake pedal on my 02 the past few weeks when it rains and want to correct the issue before it turns into a big problem.
I could see the flashlight through mine. The salt they use on the roads kills these trucks. Gently press on the inside of your windscreen, if the sealant is compromised there will be movement.
Get a water hose out. Start at the bottom corner of the windshield and spray with low pressure water while having someone watch for leaks inside. Or do it yourself and run back and forth.
If the corner doesn't leak, move to the left toward the center of the cab along the bottom of the window. After that, start working your way up along the A pillar.
You can probably move about 12" at a time and leave it in that spot for 15 - 25 minutes. Remember water runs downhill so it's important to start low and work high while diagnosing.
If it's too cold to water test, I guess you could spray the windshield with soapy water and try to pressurize the cab.
We have a light duty F250 at work that the windshield is loose. You can press outward on the upper left hand corner and it moves ever so slightly. It leaks upon the fuse box and drains the battery.
Mine had a smaller rust spot from where the windshield had cracked and run to the edge. It happened to be upper PS. When I get a new windshield every other year I have it inspected.
