Carb spacer?????

Carb spacer?????
I was told that I needed a spacer between my Carb and manifold on my 83 351W. Is that true or what. It is a 2 barrel manifold and a 2 barrel carb shouldn't it just bolt on???? Is there a old and new style? Do I need an adaptor?? help

You'll need a spacer for throttle linkage clearance. It'll hit the intake without the spacer. You should be able to find the spacer with provisions for an EGR valve and without. Depending on the intake, some will cover all the passages (exhaust supply for the EGR next to the intake port) and some will not. If you have the exhaust passage in the intake and the non-EGR spacer won't cover it (assuming you don't want to run the EGR) you could use an EGR spacer and block off the ports on the back of the spacer or use the non-EGR spacer and fabricate a block-off plate to go under the spacer to cover the exhaust port.
