I'm going to look at/buy a 1996 short bed tomorrow. The truck it came from had duel tanks while mine does not. Can anyone help confirm this will fit my truck?
My dad did a lot of work to the truck when he owned it, and I can't ever remember seeing the door pillar. When I inherited it, there was a wooden bed on it. That was the first thing I removed! I just measured from the back of the cab to the bumper and it's just under 7 feet. Safe to say it's a 6 foot short bed?
I don't think Ford ever used a 7' bed on the full-size trucks, so yes, a bed measuring slightly over 6' inside (lengthwise) would be considered a 6' bed.
No need to measure anything. When you open the drivers door, on the edge of the door itself, about waist level, will be a metal tag. It will state the wheelbase. 8' bed is 133 on a standard cab
You are aware that the body design changed in 80, and a 96 won't match?
fordguy2100, that is what it will look like but this look is not my final plan. My metal bed as been gone since 1996 and I can not find a descent dentside bed in my area. Now my problem is finding dentside outer panels. I looked on LMC.com and partsgeek.com, both only have 8' bed panels available. Does anybody know where I can get some 6' bed parts?
It's pretty common to just cut down (and maybe splice) the 8' parts, in order to create a short-bed or repair an existing one.
You'll want a Dent Side tailgate too. I think a Bump Side tailgate would look good on a Dent as well, providing it fits properly.
