Question of the Week: Winter Ballast in your Ford truck?

As the snow has started to fall around Michigan, I have seen several trucks running around town with sand bags in their bed for added traction.

For our Question of the Week, we want to know who adds extra weight over the rear wheels for better traction in the winter?

Normally I just shovel snow into the bed.

^^ Agreed. Anytime it snows, I just take it from the driveway and into to the truck bed.

Couple of bags of general purpose sand from the big box store in the bed. Just put them in plastic trash bags first unless you like sand all over the bed and in the gate hinges.

I put my winter tires on soon as it gets cold. Cops here will ticket you if there's snow blowing off your vehicle while you're driving.

I don't need to add any weight to my truck because I have a large topper and carry quite a bit of gear. Over 1000 pounds easy.

I used to run about 400lbs behind the wheels in my old truck. That thing was a bit fun in the dry, a pain in the rain, and downright suicidal in the snow. 375 ft/lbs available just off idle, wide tires in the back, and basically all the weight on the front axle made life interesting.
