Look how old Microsoft is and how many security patches and viruses have existed over the ages. Likely is an understatement. There is always holes just have to know where to look and a bit of luck. Once manufactures catch on they will change the code and close holes. And steps repeate.
There was a exploit that existed for ages where you could hijack devices that where not connected to a network that worked very well for gaining access to computers and the likes.

So you're making the jump all the way from Microsoft's history of vulnerabilities to msdt-99517's truck was "likely" hijacked by a sophisticated attack on the update firmware for Sync 3 which in turn they managed to use Sync 3 to control the door looks. Now you're saying that likely is an understatement.
I think its more likely that you have no idea how it was broken into and its pure conjecture that such a vulnerability exists much less that it was the particular vulnerability that this thief used.

I honestly havent a clue how the fuktard got in. But nothing will.ever be left in there again i can tell you that.
The problem is they don't wrap solid security around these features. Information security on vehicles is abysmally terrible and is only going to get worse.
Not very comforting whatever the method was. Hope Ford addresses this issue. We need to put a little pressure on them to do so. Squeaky wheel gets the grease.
