I just bought a 2004 f 150 XLT 4X4 tonight! I am still deciding on the color(I have 3 days to make a decision!) I went in with the price of 500 over invoice and the dealer was 65 bucks lower than me, so we shook on the deal and will sign the papers at the end of the week!! Can't wait!

hey man, congrats on the purchase. i like the dark grey and the dark blue colors. i really want to get one of the new trucks too, i've been doing a lot of research on them since i've never bought a new car before. i was just wondering...i hear a lot of people saying that they got the truck at a couple of hundred dollars over invoice...but how do you know what invoice is? does the dealer show you a paper saying how much it is? do you just go in and tell them that you want to pay 200 over invoice and that's it? i know you have to be willing to walk away from the deal to persuade the salesman to give you the price you want...but how do you know what invoice is on the particular truck you want?
i went on carsdirect.com but they dont have any info on the 04 f150s. can you give me any tips? thanks man
For the most part dealers MUST show you the invoice on the exact truck you want to buy. If they don't .....leave. In Texas, I have dealers quoting me $95 over invoice on the '04's. They want this truck to be successful. They'll give you a good deal.
I went to test drive a xlt on wed and they had a $5000 yes $5000
mark up for 2004 high demand.
I asked to see invoice and was told they dont show them.
I live in Texas, told the sales man that ford dealers are a dime a dozen and SEE YA....
out the door.
Today went and looked a fx4 cc and was quoted $75 less than Invoice and then asked about the X plan and a lot more off.
I think I got a very good deal( it could always be better but the salesman has to make a living also) and am very happy!! I will place the order on Saturday because I finally picked out a color(It is the Silver, just like the one in the pull out of the bochure supercab,XLT ,4X4, flareside). I credit my good deal to researching and talking with all the people on this board.Do your homework on the internet and the dealer will realize this and give you a great deal!
I just ordered an FX4 SCrew this weekend. I bought it from Bill Marsh Ford in Newtown, PA. I got it for $100 over invoice because my Dad had a friend at the dealership. When they put the order in the computer, they can print out the spec's with both invoice and retail price. The invoice price and codes matched exactly what edmunds.com had listed. I drove a 5.4 FX4 Supercab that they had on the lot. It drives incredible smooth, I wouldn't go with the center console it takes up too much room and you lose a seat and the captain chairs look exactly the same. This will be my first F150 and I can't wait for my truck to come in!!!!!!!!
