302 motorcraft distributor.

Where can I find a new one online?
Or a reliable replacement after market unit.

It's going on a 92 f150 5.0 4wd if it matter.

Check out this link at Fordparts.com for a Motorcraft distributor . It is actually for my truck, 95 F150 automatic. Doesn't appear to make a difference for 4wd but there is a diff between manual or automatic transmission. Check for your 92, may be the same part number.

It appears to be the same part numbers for the 92 and 95 models.
When I first clicked the link it showed a price, now it won't since I looked up my truck, and won't give a price for either now. Weird.

What would be the difference between the auto and manual?
My truck is a five speed, but the distributor that I have now is out of a auto I believe.
I did a motor swap and I'm pretty sure I left the distributor in the motor that had a auto behind it.

I'm not sure about that but hopefully one of the more experienced guys can answer. Or, talk to someone at Fordparts.com.

What's the difference between the auto and manual distributor?
And why such a price difference?
Can anyone help me locate a m/t distributor?
My search came up empty handed.

We've seen this before.....for some reason there is a different part number for a manual versus automatic gas engine trucks. I do recall running across this for 5L engines, but do not know if it is applicable to the 4.9, 5.8 or 7.5L engines.

I believe it has to do with the "octane rod" in the distributor. It was designed to change the timing without moving the distributor.

A thread on the topic: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...tment-rod.html

In reality I am quite certain you can use either distributor, just set the base timing to whatever you want.

Edit: some more threads on the topic: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...rchid=23557925

Not to long ago there was a thread/portion of thread about searching for new replacement SBF Motorcraft distributors or rebuilds labeled factory Motorcraft & it was more/less the decided they are now (at that time) both with Dodos & carrier pigeons.

I searched for about an hour & came up with 1 rebuild that I could actually put in a "cart".

I'd love to know that I'm wrong & there might be a quality MC replacement for under $200 for a factory 5.8

Is Number dummy still on this site?
I was wondering if he could do his thing and find a dealer that has one of these distributors in stock.
Auto or manual doesn't Matter.
