'79 Bronco harness replacement

Time to replace the wiring harness in my ol' trusty '79. She is such a great truck, I've taken her all over North America, including Canada and deep into Mexico. Never let me down. Anyhow...

What would you do about this A/C deicing connector? I'm a bit leery of opening up that giant box from the inside of the cab and not entirely sure what I'd be able to do anyhow. The wires appear to have melted on both sides of the connector and A/C is not something the American Autowire harness provides new wire for.

Check out the Centec and Painless Performance Products.

Painless Performance Products 50002: 21-Circuit Pro Street Wiring Harness For Street-Legal Race Cars | JEGS

Can you figure out WHY that wire got so hot? I would do that 1st and then repair accordingly.

I have 2 79 parts Bronco's and I have removed the big box out of one. And disassembled it to part it out. The overall harness has given up parts and pieces over time. But if you need a certain part that is a/c related wiring wise just PM me.

Thanks for those pictures. I already have the AAW wiring kit and it looks like the A/C wiring harness is something I can simply reuse from my old one... it's a short 2 ft run with a couple of splices and heavy gauge wire, appears to be in good shape. The main issue however, is that deicing connector itself has seen some heat at some point and not real sure whether I need to get into the box or not, but might be the case. I thought that it just carries the thermocouple signal to help switch the compressor off similar to a binary switch, but don't really know. Not sure how it would've been carrying any significant current that would've caused it to melt.

Getting in that box with it installed, well not my most favorite thing to do. I like the tail gate disassembly version way better.

I have a couple of real informative a/c links (with tons of info and pics) saved on my home computer.

Here you go.

Slowly picking away at getting the entire AAW harness installed and retrofitted. I had to modify the AAW harness a fair bit to accomodate the factory AC as well as the rear power window circuits, but all appears to be well.

My exterior lighting run to the rear, including the fuel gauge reading, appears to be connectorized using an 8-position rectangular green connector. All the wiring leading to the rear of the truck is in great shape, so I'm not planning to replace it with the AAW run. Despite looking closely at schematics, I'm not sure what each of the pins in the connector go to - I want to adapt the AAW harness to this connector, so need to know the pin out.

Any help is appreciated!
