ok, i got a 79 f250 and i just had a fire in it. some wires started smoking while i was tuning the carb... figures i just got it running to the point i was going to start driving it to work and this happens. anyway... painless makes a harness for up to '77. how much will work with my 79? is the gauge cluster the same enough to work? or any of the light plugs and stuff? if i gotta start tearing appart stuff and replacing it, i'd like to put new in.
I can help a little here.. I put a Painless harness in my old chevy-powered Ford streetrod about 5 years ago.. I was surprised- electrical is not my strengh, and it went in pretty easy..
Now I have my Ford powered Ford (stock), and I wanted something that would go in as easily as possible. After doing a search on this site, I decided to call Centech.. their guy said his harness "won't just fall onto the truck by itself, but it does go on pretty easily" (uses many FORD connectors).. I ordered it and it still sits in the box waiting for a free weekend to be installed.. I has VERY detailed directions, and seems like it is probably even easier to install than the Painless was. It's a cool, well thought out expandable harness that is MILES above that little tiny fusebox Ford put in 30+ years ago.. I'm terrified I'll have an eletrical fire with my current rats-nest cut/splice harness--
....That's my long anwser to why my 79 is getting a Centech harness soon.
good luck whichever direction you go.. Painless makes a quality (universal) product, it's really just your preference..
