My wife has locked herself out of the truck so often, that I refuse to replace the rear sliding window lock. It's held closed with a rubber band across the broken pieces. She can now get in anytime she locks herself out...and she's done it a couple of times since I started doing that.
Had a '70 F100 I used daily for 12 yrs. The lock was getting weak and if you closed the door too hard it would drop the latch and lock. One day, at work, I got out to open the overhead door to back in and load something and I got out(with truck running) and closed the door. Yup, the door locked!! Ugh. Had to find a coat hanger from the uniform closet and reach through the wing window and pop the handle up. Geez.
I would suggest a magnetic key holder and hide a spare somewhere and save yourself some aggrevation.
Assuming your door seal isn't falling apart you can "refresh" it as it is.
1. Take the seal off. It should just pull right off.
2. Take an electrician's snake and feed it through from one end to the other. Getting it in is the hardest part. Just be careful you don't push the snake through the rubber of the seal. A helper can hold the thing straight to reduce this possibility.
3. Get some old 1/2" rope, or get some cheap stuff from somewhere like Home Depot.
4. Unravel the rope a little bit and wrap over the bend in the end of the snake. Wrap some electrical tape around it tightly. Enough to hold it, but not enough to make a fat head.
5. Have someone hold the end where the rope is entering while you pull the snake and rope through.
6. Allow 6-8 inches to compensate for shrinkage and cut the rope.
7. Pull the rope so that you lose a couple of inches on one side up in the seal.
8. Place the seal back around the door.
9 Tuck the extra rope into the void of the other end. This will also help hold the two ends together.
Do the same with some 1/4" rope in that seal that's on the door.
The link I posted in my question about parts or links shows how to add the keypad, and RKE module.
If I get a second vehicle where I could tear into the truck for a few weeks I might try doing the install. I'll have to find a donor too, which from what I understand could be any similar year Ford that came with RKE stock, i.e. a Crown Vic or Explorer. The problem is you need to integrate or replace your dash harness.
