'55 239 2 barrel, 4 speed dump truck

Whats up guys, just bought a '55 f500 dump truck, starts great, as you give it a little gas, it kinda studders, then picks it back up. the little studder lasts about a second or two, just long enough to make you think its going to die. I'm sure the air adjustments are out of whack, its been a long time since I've adjusted one, would one of you guys be so kind as to run through the process for me? thanks and glad to be a member!

I don't know enough about the earlier Y's to help you. I do advise that you get a shop manual for the truck. It should have that procedure outlined.

The truck is '61 years old now which means anything could have been done ot it by now, so I do have one question. Does it have an original style 2 barrel, which mounts to the intake with 3 bolts or is it a more modern one which mounts using 4 bolts?

They are not. All '54-'56 Y blocks have important differences from '57-'64 Y blocks, particularly when we are talking about carburetors. On the earlier ones, the carburetor and distributor must match in order for the timing control to operate correctly.

Yes. Charlie, as always, knows exactly what he's talking about!! They are indeed quite different!

For the OP, I would suggest you determine if you really do actually have a 239.

Check the block ID to find out what you have.

Here's a great site for determining what your engine is!
