I've got a 94 F150 4X4 4.9L and I tried to get the fuel filter off yesterday with no luck. I let out all the pressure and bought the quick release tool and still couldn't get the line disconnected.
Is there a trick to this ?
I have those plastic clips on my Ranger, but I do not believe he has them on his truck.
Try spraying and soaking inside the connectors with PB Blaster or WD-40 first.
Open the tool and place it on the fuel filter line then close the tool around the fuel filter line. Slide the tool (away from the filter), into the fuel hose until it stops. Drape a rag over the tool and fuel line; this will shield any gasoline that comes out. Grasp the end of the fuel hose and gently push in while pushing in on the tool. The tool activates a spring-loaded clip inside the fuel hose releasing it from the fuel filter. You will feel and/or hear a click or pop when the spring is released. While pushing the tool in, (depressing the spring) pull on the fuel hose until it pops off. If it does not pop off, try rotating the tool a little around the fuel filter (it's important that the tool is pushed in all the way to release the spring) and try again. The fuel hose is semi flexible so carefully bend it to remove from the fuel filter.
