I have a 390 witha 2bbl and I want to upgrade it. I would like the Edelbrock performer intake and there 600 cfm carb. That cost a total of $500+accessories. Or I thought about running a 500cfm 2bbl on the stock intake for $220+acc. What should I go with? I'm sure the 4bbl setup makes more power but how much more then a 500cfm would.
Using the adapter is like pouring 90w gear oil thru a funnel. You can only flow so much thru the 2 holes.
You will gain performance and gas mileage with the 4bbl(if you keep your foot out of the secondaries) because you will actually be running off of the front 2 barrels most of the time which are actually smaller than the two barrel venturies.
Plus you will lose about 75lbs off of the engine by going aluminum. Less weight to pull means more performance.
