If touching the wire to the battery does not turn the truck over, it's the battery or the starter. If you here just a bunch of clicks it's the battery. No clicks it's the starter.
And that's no key required... just the jumper wire.
You can even turn the key to on and use the jumper, if it starts. Your golden, drive it.
It sounds like bad batteries or connections or starter or both. Confirm batteries voltages are good. Hitting that trigger wire to the battery terminal should make the starter crank the engine.
Also check both of the large nuts that hold the battery cable to the solenoid
and the starter motor wire to the solenoid. One loose nut is all it takes to give
you a click and no start. Been there done that and got towed home.
Thanks sooo much guys....the symptoms threw me off a bit because there was no click when turning key......then later when i jumped i heard it loudly try to engage... so i figd there was somethin in between not letting the current reach the solenoid.....what happened was by me smackin the thing with a hammer; must have closed the gap enough on the big solenoid cable terminal, which turned out to be broken inside the housing...Anyways u guys were all right....i found a vaccuum line down by control arm that was broken and i fuxed it also......I decided to use my jumper cables to jump my starter as i bashed it gently with a hammer.....Came up with that one myself....it worked really well. Just got home about 30 mins ago and my no tow syreak lives and the alternator was replaced free from store.....so weird how stuff just happens for no reason out of the blue.i was also thrown off cuz i was dickin around wuth the egr yesterday and the scan tool which i dont use ever......thanks havent been on this site in ages, gonna find pics of my old truck that i stupidly scrapped for 500
Good deal on that. Also welcome to the group of "no rollback rides". My 830k bucket has been on a trailer from Illinois to kc,, and multiple big truck trailers (running fine tho) just transporting,, but NEVER on a rollback. We are a small group prob huh?? Lol
