i have a 95 f-150 xlt with a 5.0L, 4od, whenever it shifted gears it would shutter, i replaced the fuel filter and it stopped for about a day, and now it does it whenever it reaches about 52-54 mph. i can't remember if it did it before i put the dual exhaust on it. it's got a single glasspack on it and the duals coming off of that, does it make a difference? let me know i'm getting irritated! don't let me sell my ford for a chevy!
I had the same problem in my 1996 f150 w/ 5.0 4x4 ext cab, I did some research and found out that the torque converter was the culpret. I had the tranny fluid flushed and it took care of it for now. Good luck.
I posted this response to this a couple of days ago on down the line. And it is still doing fine. This is not a patch, doing this either.
"The 95 in my signature did the same thing. I took it my local, very trust worthy, transmission shop. He serviced the transmission and added a friction modifier to the fluid that after a short period of time de-glazes the clutch faces in the lock up convertor, this is what causes the "shuddering". They grab then slip, grab and slip.
I actually just got the truck back from him yesterday.
This is a very common problem. I have the AOD trans. 14 bolts on the pan. The EOD has 20 I think.
My transmission checked out fine, no metal or anything in the pan. So far it has not acted up at all. He said it could take up to 200 miles of driving to totally clean up the clutch facings in the convertor.
He said if it is left un-attended for a long period of time is when you will usually have to replace the torque convertor."
