Hello:
I'm back with another question I'm embarrassed to ask, but better to ask than to wish you had...later.
My brake lights started to stay on. I decided to buy a new stop light switch and make a quick repair. Put the new one in and got the same effect...lights stay on.
I'm thinking maybe I got the wires crossed. Now I plan to switch them and see if that fixes the problem.
Question: Before I try this is there a problem I should be aware of. Like could I burn something out, fuse or bulb or whatever, by crossing the wires?
I went back and found some "red" on one of the old truck wires and some red lines on one of the new switch wires. So I think I have it connected correctly.
Now the brake lights don't work at all. They were stuck "on" with the old switch. All other lights, including back up lights, are fine.
I've gone back and now realize that although the dealer website calls the part I replaced a "stop light switch", it seems that I have only replaced the connector to the switch.
The switch looks like this Duralast Stoplight Switch F4829- ReadReviews onDuralast #F4829
Looks like it is held in place with a pin, of some sort. It has a small spring inside and plugs into the black plastic part I have already replaced.
I can't find any replacement instructions. Can anyone give me some advice or point me in the right direction?
Yes, it's held in place with a little clevis pin.
The brake pedal is connected to the booster pushrod by a pivot pin, the switch goes in this interface, the pivot pin goes through and the clevis pin keeps it all together.
I did this in the Advance parking lot.
A pair of needle nose pliers helps if you have fat fingers like me.
It fixed the "on all the time" part. I had blown a fuse installing the black plastic connection part of the switch. A new fuse fixed the "now off all the time" part.
Only reason I ask is if some does a search for "brake light" and finds this post it will have the fix. I have seen it posted some one find the same thing wrong and no "finish" to the post.
Good to hear all is working as it should.
