can the instrument gauge cluster be removed to better access the wiring?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Tom

Yes, they can be removed individually, but you have to disconnect all the wiring from them. If you have stock wiring, most of it is above the clusters.

They go in from the under side of the dash. A small nut at the top and bottom of each assembly. Sorry, no pictures. I was too busy standing on my head to get mine in.

Thanks for the info. Found the smal nuts. Looks like light switch has to be removed as well.

Did you remove the seat for better access?

Yes, removing the seat will greatly reduce the difficulty factor for dash work.

It's amazing how much the older we get the harder it is to get into those tight spots? They look kind of roomy enough until you try and get your body and head up in there to work.....of course you then realize the wrench or screwdriver you need is sitting on the work bench!

Did that 3 weeks ago! They worked great but I changed my grounds the other night and now they aren't running right!!! They won't return to the stopped position. Hoping I just need to find a better ground location but if not and I have to go back up in there I don't know if i'll be able to accept that very well!

Not the words I wanted to hear. My passenger side spins freely. Can't wait!

Later!

so just how much did you extend your cab. At 6'0 and with a thin bench I find my sons 51 to tight. We are going to extend 4-6" next year when my shop has some spare room!

I agree, I did this a few years back and replaced with Newport engineering's set up and have not had to fit back up in their since

But I do need to pull my speedo now since the speedo is working but the odometer is not if I remember right when I retired the truck some years back I added length to the gauge harness and put a plug for easier removal. Also did I mention this is my 9 year olds truck. I'm thinking it is time for him to get bent in half and learn how to pull a speedo!!

It's stock and tight!
It was great motivation to loose a few lbs. I bought it back in '95 when I a
was about 230. Seat is out now to work on the interior so no picture.

When I took all that stuff out of my 49 cab I stuck a pillow in the corner to lay my head on. Took about 2 hours, nap included of course. Used one of those lights you clip on the bill of the ball cap.
