Has anyone had to replace the TED unit in their truck? My driver seat unit has stopped working and now that its getting cold I miss my butt heater! The dealer wanted $450 to replace it but I figure it cannot be that hard.Plus I am sure the part can be had much cheaper than the dealer!
I am having trouble fining the part on the net. Anyone have a part number? Does the seat need to come out for replacement?
LOL ok so no body has had one go bad yet I guess I'm he first....... I'll keep digging for a part number and then post up the repair if anyone else has this issue. I cant imagine it being hard to replace.
Thanks Just Strokin but no that's not it, the unit houses the blower motor and the heating element. I looked through 22 pages on the link you sent and still cannot find it.
Isn't there a separate TED in the seat back and another in the base?
I'm surprised to see a failure on a 2015. Are you certain the TED failed and not an electrical connection / relay / switch?
The seat base will probably need to be unbolted and tipped forward. Not a big deal.
The seat backs can be unzipped, revealing at least the plumbing but maybe a second ted.
Good question, I was under the impression it only has one. It will work for about 30sec- to a minute when its first started. You can hear the relay click when you turn it on and then hear it click as it shuts off all while the display screen still shows it to be on.
When I had it at the dealer for the TSB update flash I had them look at it, they said it as the TED unit but didn't specify which one if it has more than one. They also wanted $450.00 so I figured I could save a few bucks by doing it myself.

I'm confident you can do it yourself. These TEDs can also trip trouble codes in the HVAC unit for problems such as a short or even overheating. I wonder if the dealers cleared the codes. I'd expect these units to be pretty pricey.

Never had any MIL if it would trip one and dealer made no mention of clearing codes. The passenger seats works just fine, they are obviously separate units but they both operate off the head unit.
At $120.00 its not too terrible to give a try, I may dig a little bit more and see if i can diagnose it myself a little more. Maybe see what wire energizes when its turned on to see if the unit just does not work but it receives a signal.
