Never had any MIL if it would trip one and dealer made no mention of clearing codes. The passenger seats works just fine, they are obviously separate units but they both operate off the head unit.
At $120.00 its not too terrible to give a try, I may dig a little bit more and see if i can diagnose it myself a little more. Maybe see what wire energizes when its turned on to see if the unit just does not work but it receives a signal.
It won't illuminate the MIL or any other warning lamp, but IDS (or maybe even FORScan) can read the ECU for every single electrical module in the vehicle. Almost all of them can store trouble or fault codes. For example, if one of your blend doors in the dash was sticking, that would register a fault code.

So then it may be safe to say the tech hooked the scanner to it and saw that everything else was in order but the TED was simply not working??? I really hate buying pats and guessing as its not what I do. However I dont own a scan tool to read this trucks control module so I either have to do it the old school way or just buy a part. I have a good friend thats a master GM tech and it was nice when I had my Denali, if I needed something or needed him to scan it I could. I dont have any friends in the Ford world.

Check out FORScan. It is free software to run on a Windows laptop with Bluetooth. Then buy a $15 Bluetooth to OBDII adapter. Now you have basically the same exact capability as the Ford dealer. It takes some learning from what I understand, but you can clear codes from any module, you can change programming and parameters.
Techs these days live and die by the computer. The code may have been clear, and maybe they have seen this before and therefore recommended replacing the TED. Or maybe they are just guessing.
If you are replacing the TED, you might want to consider upgrading the efficiency with a bolt on intake and exhaust kit. My seat coolers don't work all that great and this kit is supposed to help a lot. I've been in contact with the creator/engineer and he's not exactly sure it'll fit since I didn't have a picture of a Super Duty TED to compare it to the F-150 TED. You would benefit a lot of people if you contacted him about this product to confirm it'll fit.

I have spoken with Tim. (Seatguru)
It is not the same part for the pre 17's. He might be interested in designing one for our trucks if the need is there. I have felt the SD cools better than the F150 but there is room for improvements. He is very active on F150Forum.
They worked with Ford techs to address the issue but Ford only listened with one ear. They issued a TSB, it helps but does not address the issue at its core. Tim's design fixes the issue.

Very interesting! I never had a complaint about it working, I feel it does a good job. still seems like a good idea and if it improves an already pretty good system that's a plus.

That's what I was afraid of. Ours works marginally, theirs doesn't work at all so it must be a different unit. I had already sent Tim money for the part when we realized it was probably a different TED. He'll design one for ours if we want him to. Maybe we have the same TED as the 2014 F-150s?
My 15 SD has the same, or a similar issue. When I turn the seat heater on, the TED runs for a couple of seconds then stops. It won’t come on again until after a key cycle. Curious if is just the TED and if the solution is just to replace it.
