I've got a 99 f 150, 4.6, 5 speed tranny 4x4. and I was wondering if a 5 speed off of a 89 f150 with straight 6 would fit on the 4.6 because it's fairly new tranny that I'm hoping to be a back up transmission for my 99 f 150
No. The trans for a 4.6L engine uses the modular engine pattern. The 300-cube 6 used the Small Block Ford pattern, IIRC. Definitely not 4.6L compatible.
All 4.6L V8's use the modular engine pattern, except for the so-called B*stard Blocks, which were some 4.6L in 1991 or 1992 (don't remember which), that were made to be SBF pattern to fit the existing AOD automatic trans, as the electrically-shifted AOD-E trans was not ready yet. Those were a one-year deal. Useless trivia, now
