Sounds like you ordered the 3.31 and are trying to convince yourself that it's the best by reading a Ford document.

3.55 will downshift less, tranny will run cooler, the trip will be less tiring and you will probably get better fuel economy.

I have had a 6.0 with 3.73, and 6.7's with 3.31 and 3.55.

I tow around 20k of hay, a 11k lb Deere compact track loader or my 14k lb 6105R tractor as well as my 11k lb RV. My experience says the 3.55 will tow heavier loads better than the 3.31. This is also why I don't want 20" wheels as they turn a 3.55 into a 3.31 (3.32 to be precise) because they are taller than the 18's.

The highlighted section above is precisely why I had intended to order the 3.55 axle ratio. My current 1/2 ton (3.36 axle) will heat up the transmission pretty good when towing my side-by-side ATV over the passes here in Colorado. I have to actively manage the transmission to keep the temp down. I'm tired of that.

Just stick to your guns and reorder what you want. They'll have no problem selling the first truck when it comes in and no, you shouldn't have to eat the grand you put down. Tell them to shift it over to the 2nd truck.

just keep the truck, unless you are hooked to the trailer all the time you will never notice enough to make any difference

Out of all the miles you drive a year what percentage will be hooked to a trailer ?? I bet you are like the rest of us and maybe 1/3 at best. Like the one poster said the 20" wheels turn the 3.55 into the same ratio anyway, and that is what most of these pick ups are running.

I have had both, haul several big loads a year and never noticed it one bit. Why wait for another truck if this one is what you wanted. Everyone is making this a much bigger deal than it is, unless you are hooked to a trailer ALL the time. my opinion

On a side note, the guy with the bales on the trailer LOL, bit overloaded on that trailer don't you think lol. When you grossly over load like that who cares what rearend the truck has lmao. If the dot stopped you in my state axle ratio would be the least of your worries lol. No judging, as i am often overloaded too, but i have a tandem dually trailer and your load would probably exceed MY legal weight allowed, let alone the gcvwr allowed. Just an observation, maybe in your state things are different.

Get exactly what you intended to order or else you will live with regret. You will get a job 2 so you will get somethings that job 1 doesnt have like the extra usb ports in the rear and whatever else might be different

When I ordered mine I wanted the 3.31 gears but wasn't able to get them because I was getting the 20" wheels. The dealer said that Ford wouldn't put 3.31s with 20s because it would be too high. Now, you are getting 18" wheels with that rear. It probably won't make a bit of difference. Look at it this way, what difference does it make if you're running in 5th or 6th gear if the rpms and mph are the same? You'll always have the higher geared 6th for when you're empty for better fuel economy.

This [in my mind] isn't an issue that I would loose any sleep over as you'll probably like it better in the end.

Good luck with your new truck. Bob

Around 19k lbs between the hay and trailer. SD doesn't have any issues, now the tires might if I run too fast or get 'em too hot. If I hadn't of sold 2/3's of my cows and wasn't slowing down I would have to buy a tandem dually myself.
Farm tags on both so no DOT issues.

How many people pay attention to the rear axel ratio when shopping for a used truck?

Everytime I have ordered a truck and I pay attention to tire size with the gear ratio.

I wonder how much operating temps within transmissions correlate with what they found about operating temps within engines when it comes to wear and longevity.

Somewhere I read that a transmission exceeding allowed temps cut a significant amount of time off of its life. I don't know how true that is. I have a hunting buddy that drives a 2007 Nissan Armada and pulls a 7,500 lb trailer through the mountains. He had no idea that the temp going to the upper region was bad. I showed him how to keep the temp down by gearing down to 3rd. He has 160K miles on that truck and it shows no sign of failing.

You may have signed the order, but it's not what you wanted or asked for. There's a lot of crap on that sheet to cover. I'd have them re-submit the order and ask for a priority 1 so it gets built quickly. They'll have no problem selling whatever your last build was.
Yes! That's right. I keep reading about people getting options they didn't want or not getting something they did want. Cancel the order and re-order. In many states they can't keep your deposit. Plus in some states, when you buy a car, you have 3 (or some number) of days to return it. Back out of the deal. Am I wrong about this?

When I ordered my truck the dealer told me that he didn't care if I did back out of the order. It surprised me as the truck has a sticker price of over $80,000. He said that the nicer the truck, the easier it is for him to sell it. I could walk away at any time. If this really bothers you, why don't you just ask your dealer and see what he says. Like mine, he may say "sure not problem".
