Last gen SD came with optional 275/65/18, a 32" tire. So, you can make up 1/2 of the gearing rpms with tires at some point.(assuming you have 275/70/18, 33.2").
Frankly, I think it is ridiculous not to offer 3.73 like they do for the 6.2. The double OD tranny of the 6r140 is a .67 ratio.
When it shows, Just enjoy the new truck.
Thanks for the tip on Ford Chat. I've never used that before. "Monica" at Ford Chat says the order is "in process" and she isn't sure if it can be changed.
Dealer says the order can't be changed. Bummer. Now I'm going to worry about it.
If you are pulling a heavier trailer in the mountains you may need to control your RPMs a little more manually. Don't let it lug down too far before shifting down and also don't let it run at prolonged high RPMs either when it will pull ok in the next higher gear. You should do just fine but you may need to manage the rpm/speed a little more yourself. But it's easy and you will feel more a part of your vehicle.
And unless you ordered the HD front end, snowplow or camper pkg you could not just order the 3.55.

None of the above. Neither my dealer or I caught that, apparently. I had the 3.55 on my list but it didn't get removed from the process (not the Ford order system) so I didn't realize it wasn't going to work.
Jim, I just saw this and boy does that stink. I would want it changed it can be done at the dealer level. They'd have to do the front gearset too so yes, it could cost a grand. Maybe if you offered to pay the parts, they'd cover the labor? If it gets done, don't forget to have them update the gearset selection in the trucks computer. Or you could always re-order and get the 20" wheels you wanted now that stickergate is resolved...
I handed the dealer my list of options. He entered them. I reviewed the order, but missed the axle ratio. I signed the order sheet. I'm as culpable as he is. If this was a difference between 3.31 and 4.30 I would be willing to give up my $1,000 deposit. I can live with 3.31 and hopefully the truck will be so great that I'll forget about the axle ratio completely.
Man, that sucks! I did the same thing you did. I handed over my wish list and she entered it. After I saw the old DOS system she had to manually enter everything into, I went home and checked everything 3 times….I guess I'm a little OCD! Im sure that 3:31 ratio will be fine. I have several buddies with these 6.7 trucks and have never heard anyone talk about the 3:31 being a limiting factor.
I just went through the build process on the Ford site for a F-350 CCLB 6.7 Lariat Ultimate.
A: I can't find the camper package. I wouldn't have minded having the rear sway bar.
B: I don't have the option to select 20" tires? It's not showing up. I suspect I needed to pick some package to get that option but I haven't had enough coffee to make it obvious.
C: If I select the 3.55 axle it then forces the HD front suspension (as Rob said above). I would very much prefer to avoid making the suspension any stiffer than it already is.
Maybe having the dealer do the gears is a better solution.
Not sure what's going on there Jim. The camper package is right at the top with the plow prep pkg. etc. Third option down under the 11.4k GVWR option. The 20" wheels and tires are a stand alone option that can be ordered. They are just below the half way point as you scroll down the option list in the exterior section. 3.55's don't require the HD front suspension. I'm on the build and price now and one isn't forcing the other? If you want the camper package you'd get the HD front springs anyways though.
