Okay guys just got the truck a few weeks ago, 99 7.3 crew cab clean title already purchased and title in my name now. When I run the Vin number through etis.ford it says a regular cab v10? Is this something I need to have looked into?
The 5th thru 7 digits of the VIN defines the series, 2WD or 4WD, Regular Cab, Super Cab, or Crew Cab. The 8th digit of the VIN is the engine code.
If the Certification Label is glued to the left door face, compare the VIN on this label to the VIN on the registration to see if they match.
People replaced damaged left doors with used doors. 99.9% of the time, they failed to order a replacement Certification Label with the original codes printed on it from FoMoCo.
8th is a s. Which shows 6.8 v10. Doesn't have a door tag either. 521 is code which shows 4x4 2 door single rear wheel. Now I'm trying to locate a Vin on body or frame and look that up.
521 is code which shows 4x4 2 door single rear wheel. No such thing as a VIN series code (5th/6th/7th digits) of 521
F350 Crew Cab: The 5th digit of the VIN is the letter W (Crew Cab); the 6th digit is a 3 (350). The 7 digit is another number that designates pickup or cab and chassis, 2WD or 4WD

It applies to every FoMoCo vehicle (and all other auto makers as well) with a 17 digit VIN as the US Gov't standardized VIN's beginning in 1981.
Before 1981, one auto makers VIN was totally different than anothers, it was a confusing mish-mash!
17 digit VIN: 1st 3 digits: Manufacturer, country of origin, complete or incomplete vehicle / 4th digit: GVWR class, type of brakes / 5th/6th/7th digits: series code / 8th digit: engine code
9th digit: Check digit, auto makers usage only / 10th digit: year code / 11th digit: assembly plant code / 12th thru 17th digits: numerical sequence of assembly.
I was talking about the VIN guide from Ford....not the VIN itself and what positions indicate....maybe I wasn't clear....Ford VIN guide only goes back to year 2000...
The VIN is on a plate at base of windshield, easiest to view from outside driver side.
The registration should also be a source.
It is possible a typo was made, (perhaps prior to you) which could be a PITA to get resolved, the doors being replaced is also "suspicious" if not a simple typo.
