Yup used a non hardening gasket sealer on it to keep it in place

You could always just take the back mount of the cooler off while leaving the front mount bolted in place.

I might as well just replace both and do all new seals again just to make sure it isn't any of that but I doubt it is

I actually had one today that gave me some trouble, i had to rock the header slightly side to side and push down against ground with both hands but it went on. Had some heavier pitting around the outter area but it will seal up just fine. That's why its so important to use a silicone oring lube instead of vaseline. Vaseline will lubricate the oring and slide on, but once its gets up to temp it "melts" and is displaced from any surfaces imperfections its sealing. The silicone based oring stuff is rated for 400F before it "melts" and seals surface imperfections in the headers much in the same way teflon paste is able to seal pipe threads.
