I have gone thru all my saved posts, even on older models, on 4.9 and mounting of the AC compressor and could not find an answer.
Truck in question is a 81 4.9 factory air if it matters.
I have the York compressor with the small adaptor bracket still bolted to it and that is all I have for brackets.
There should be a cast iron bracket that bolts to the left side of the block that the adaptor bracket bolts to and there maybe a brace from two bolts on the timing cover up to the top of the York compressor.
I know sometime around late 81 to 82 the compressor changed to a Sanden but still used the cast iron block bracket but changed the adaptor to other types to fit the Sanden compressor.
Then some time I think around 83 or 84 to 86 the block bracket went to a stamped steel type and the compressor brackets may have also changed but did not look that deep into it, I am now.
The 87-96 also uses the stamped steel block bracket and compressor brackets but I do not know if they are the same as the 84-86 brackets as I think this is when they to the serpentine belt setup.
So question(s)
I have the chance to buy brackets for 87-96, from what I find uses the serpentine belt setup.
Are these brackets the same as the 84-86 brackets and the change is only in the compressor pulleys for the model compressor used?
If Just the block bracket is the same I can work with that as I really don't want to make one like fljab did but will if I have to.
I am strongly thinking of going with the Sanden compressor just because I hear it works better with R134 and uses less power to run it. Also because of running R134 and the different compressor I am looking at getting new AC hoses.
Thanks for any insight any one can give.

The '87 up brackets are different. There are folks here much wiser than I on this stuff, but I believe if you got everything and converted all of your accessory drives over to serpentine, it would work. All the bolt holes and such should be there.
I have some, maybe most or all of the serp parts. I will give them to you for shipping. I bought a '88 engine to rebuild and have no need for the drive. I'm not home now but will be by middle of next week. I can take pics of what I have and go from there, OK?
Thanks lets see if others will post some thing before I say "ship".
The main thing is if the 87 up motor bracket and the little compressor parts that bolt to it can be used with the right FS6 compressor with the V belt pulley for 81 belt setup.

Fuzz Face I just recently pulled all the hoses, compressor and brackets off my 1983. I have no plan to put this stuff back. I have no idea if the compressor is good. The small hard line (high pressure line) was burned in half in the engine fire. The po said it still had freon in the system and it only sat a few weeks before I bought it.
I should have updated this but at times I go after something and when I hit a wall I jump onto something else till I need this part again.
Anyway a member pulled the brackets I needed that would work with the P/S pump I had, not right for the year truck I have.
I wanted to use a Sanden compressor and V belts came up with I think it was 83 brackets from a van to match the P/S pump.
I have not gotten the compressor, hoses, drier and few other things as I still dont have the truck on the road.
Maybe it will help someone else
Thank you,

The 2nd picture is what I have and being from a van it used the GM type PS pump where the York style used the Motor Craft PS pump.
I do not know if the York can be used with the GM PS pump or not but the person that found it knew I had the GM PS pump and I also wanted to use the Sanden compressor.
Does the York use hose clamps on both hoses? It looks like it and the bracket(s) don't look factory from what I have seen when looking for brackets.
I want to say that is a dealer installed AC setup based on the brackets & hoses.
Also how did the AC belt get installed? Did the crank have 3 belt grooves or 2 and a 3rd bolted on?
I believe factory had 3 and after market was bolt on.
Either way it will help if someone needs a bracket. You can also get off Ebay adaptor to use the York bracket and Sanden compressor.

Mine has three, I think it's 2 and 1 sandwiched with the dampner material, but I haven't looked at all those parts at the same time in awhile. But I don't remember any bolts. Mine is going to get a bath here in a bit and if that is wrong I'll update.

Correct on the 300 york being dealer installed. All 4 yorks I've pulled were I believe dealer added. 3 have FoMoCo tags (83 e350 351w, 81 f150 351w, and 81 f150 300) and one a York tag (67 galaxie 302). It will definitely fit with my Saginaw PS pump (GM style). And yes it had hose clamps, but I dont recall if the other three did. Cant recall the crank pulley, but my 85 w/o AC has a 3 belt balancer. I just got a hydroboost brake unit from an E-superduty to add to the bronco too. It requires the Saginaw pump. The York brackets are going on mine and the sanden brackets were pulled for someone and sold. (Wasnt you was it lol?) I pulled the yorks for parts and pulled the brackets with em. Some yorks, depending on model installed in and if dealer or factory added can have different fitting styles. Some come straight out the top, and others have the elbows like in my pic above. Most I see are laying on their side, but the 300 was vertical. The reason for yorks is for an on board air system. Yorks are the best, readily available, pump because they dont rely on freon to lubricate them. They have their own oil supply.
