6.0 Powerstroke (2005 Ex) - Has had a squeaky belt since having engine rebuilt about 2500 miles back. I had a look at it some time back and thought the AC compressor pulley was *slightly* out of alignment, but didn't want to mess with anything as it was just rebuilt.
I chalked the squeak up to a bad belt & ordered a new one. When I went to fit it today I noticed that the AC compressor is not attached to the engine. One of the bolts was hanging out, and fell out when I poked at it. I cant tell if its sheared or not, its 4" long including the head. It *looks* intact.
The compressor pulley rotates freely. I can't find an obvious way to verify if the compressor itself spins. (Any suggestions?)
So what are the possibilities here? Compressor was never attached correctly & worked loose? I guess the compressor could have siezed and broken its mounts, but its odd that its squeaked from day one, and looked slightly out of alignment.
any experience out there with compressors shearing their bolts? Anyone know what length the bolt should be (so I can verify if its sheared or not?)
