Purchased a NOS 6 volt positive ground wiper motor and have no idea where each wire will go. Black, green and red. I will need to get a switch but any help will be appreciated. No instructions came with it and I do not know if it is single speed, dual speed or variable speed.
ROSS The model is WWC 6K 517 -- Said it fit a whole bunch of 6v positive ground cars/trucks.
Thanks Scott
I hooked up a wire from the motor housing to frame (positive)
I could not find a switch so using a headlight switch to test.
black wire goes to tail light side
red wire goes to parking light
green goes to headlight
then battery connection goes to NEG side of battery
Turn switch on to parking and motor runs fine
pull switch to headlight and nothing happens - does not run
So my question is what does green wire do??
I tried switching red and green and still nothing on green??
I guess I can always just run as one speed which is fine and better than vacuum wipers but want to be sure I am not going to burn something up. I do have a 10 amp fuse on every line so I think I may be safe.
Thanks for helping.
Ross -- I am a total electrical dummy (and on many other subjects also) and do not understand what the diagram is telling me. I am still trying to find the correct switch - just wanted to be sure the motor worked and I could still use it if I can not find a switch.
I don't remember what wires did what. It's been a while. Ross or somebody posted up how it was wired as it is not on a schematic. I hooked it up as instructed and it worked.
Just found a switch that is suppose to fit this motor so ordered it. Hopefully that will solve the green wire question. I think it is the wire that tells it the "PARK" position as shown in your diagram Ross - at least that is what I think you are trying to tell me Thanks guys I appreciate the help
The headlight switch has 5 terminals. The motor has 3 wires plus a 4th I hooked up to motor housing to make it easier to hookup for test. Left side has parking and headlight terminal right side has 2 tail light terminals but they are connected together. Back side has terminal for battery and front has pull to turn on off. I put red wire to parking light terminal. Green to headlight terminal. Black to tail light. Then I put a new wire on battery terminal which I hooked to negative on battery. The wire from motor housing went to positive on battery (6 volt positive ground). Pulled switch out to parking light position (red wire) and motor ran fine. Pulled it out to be headlight position (green wire) and the motor stopped.
I switched the red and green and then the parking position did not work but the headlight position did run. So red works green does nothing. Does that mean the green is the PARK position side of the motor? Does this mean the motor only has one speed?
Have I mentioned how much I hate electrical issues on an old beast !
Thanks guys.
Is this headlight switch a 48-52 Ford? Because the headlights and parking lights are fed separately on those switches (see below). You could just jumper the two power feeds to see if it changes things.
I have a 10 amp in line fuse on each wire just to be safe so I don't. Burn the motor out so I will try moving wires around and see what happens. I may just have to wait until switch arrives later this week.
