Hi Guys,
Still kinda new here to this great forum. But I want to share this story with everybody. I found this guy close to my house. He posted up a 65 FE motor on CL. I went there today to check it out. He is a shop teacher in a votech school and he had to make space so he was selling this motor. He told me the teacher before him had this Ford setup. It was a 65 police interceptor that was taken off the assembly line the nose was cut off it and it was donated to the school from FORD as a learning tool. It ran and had a trans. attached to it. He said that it was used to learn how to adjust timing and do a basic tune up but was never taken apart past the valve covers. Amazing to me that a 50 year old motor never saw the outside elements nor had a single mile on it. The outside of the motor has dust on it that's it. the inside of the valve covers look new.
Has anyone ever heard of something like this? It has gold valve covers, a black block and 4 barrel intake, 3.78 stroke, cast markings on the block of 12 DIF, C5AE-A, 352 9, and a stamp of 4H18 R or B, heads casting C4AE 6090C, Intake casting 4H17 C5AE9425C.
He said it's a 390. Could it be a 427? But the pistons don't look like 390 pistons. They are concaved equally all around. Just like a bowl. Anyway I bought it. I had to. It's a like new 50 year old motor. $500.
Any input is welcomed. Any sugestions welcomed. I plan on finding out if it really is a 390. And then put it into my project 73 f250. Should I do anything to it, reseal it or simply tune it up and put some fresh oil in?
ok, i will check for the tag. I ended up buying it. If I take the oil pan down, will I be able to see anymore numbers or signs of what it is? It appears to have hydraulic lifters. It is doesn't have cross bolted main caps. Thanks.
Ok. The stroke is 3.78. It does not have a balancer on the front of the motor. So i guess it's internally balanced? It has a half moon cutout on the rear of the crank. 4 hours on the computer and still confused. The metal tag is not on the coil. The heads online say that they are 64' fe big block.
