Hey again all. Issues today. My throttle solenoid on my 78 f150 351m 2brl carb will not retract. As soon as it starts the rod extends and pushes the throttle up a bit. My issue is that it never retracts and I don't have a clue how to stop that other than disconnect power. With winter coming it would be nice to have this working . Any ideas or an explanation of where this gets powe would be very helpful . Thanks guys.
Are you saying that when you turn the engine off, the solenoid stays extended?
If the solenoid extends when the engine is started and retracts when the engine is shut down, that's the way it's supposed to work.
This is an anti-diesel solenoid. Its function is to allow the throttle plate to close past idle when the engine is shut down to prevent run-on (dieseling).
Thanks Mike that was exactly what I was looking for. And yea, something on the truck is working the way it is supposed to . Thank you for the input that helps a lot.
Yeah, now days fuel injection has eliminated any dieseling problems the emission controlled, carbureted engines had back in the day.
Today, you kill the ignition, you also shut down fuel flow so there's no tendency to run on like the old engines had.
The anti-diesel solenoid was, at best, a band-aid solution.
