You can do this! There are enough pictures here in the FTE to give you the knowledge. Your son and stepfather will offer the inspiration, you will supply the labor of love and in your family 56 build thread I am pretty sure I notice a Lincoln welder to the side, so you have two of the most important tools, ( second tool-----you)
What! No chicken wire and bondo????
If I ever have a free weekend, I should run up and watch you work and see how something like that is done in person.
I thought that repairing the cab on my 54 was beyond me...but thanks to help and encouragement from people here I was able to do it all myself. Here are links to 2 of my albums that have progress pics. Other than the patch panels the only other piece of equipment I bought is a gas Mig. I started with the Floor, then cab corners/door posts and finally rocker.
Yes I did. When I put the floor in I left it longer than needed till I got the rocker installed. I alternated weld tack holes in the floor panel and rocker, then welded the seam. Since I plan on putting a floor covering on it anyways it will not show. May not be real pretty welds, but they work.
I'm not sure if I'm going to have it sandblasted before I install the patches or not.[/QUOTE]
I had the cab blasted before replacing metal just to get rid of the thin stuff and see how far i had to replace but i would not do any other areas until you patch it because sometimes you destroy the only pattern you have to go by. You can do this metal repair I taught my sons and we had no idea how to even start. There are some great metal fabricators here to help you along.
