Sorry Troverman its the yellow *** (****) that has come right out of the top shaft. I don't see what holds the *** (****) in place when you pull it out. The *** (****) continues to dislodge from the shaft every time I pull the open the tailgate step now. The ribs on the 4 sides of the *** do not hold it tight to the top shaft any more.
I just went out and looked at mine so I could answer your question. There are two yellow nubs that look to be part of the **** that lock into the holes on the shaft. It looks like you have to depress both of them at the same time to remove the yellow ****, I didn't have anything handy with me to test that theory.
Thanks xxxsherpa. I checked the yellow **** and see there is no nubs. They have probably broken off due the cold when I pulled it out for the first time lately. I don't see any shear marks either so it must be a clean straight break of the nub.. I will drop in to the ford dealership to order a new ****. I';m sure it would be covered under warranty. Thanks
There is a spring in the handle. I took mine apart, stretched the spring, and reassembled. Works much better now. Also check that the step isn't rubbing or catching on one of the edges. Mine was, so I adjusted the position and that also helped.
I am looking for the step assembly latch. Mine is bent and prevents the step ladder from fully closing. Has anyone seen a replacement part for this? Thanks in advance!
