I have a 'new' F250 v8 5.4. It needs both exhaust manifolds replaced, as two bolt heads are gone on one of the exhaust cylinders and it looks like someone tried rigging it by putting some gray sealant around it. Its loud. But the manifolds themselves arent cracked. HOWEVER, when I'm driving uphill and press the gas pedal to accelerate THE TRUCK SHUDDERS. I can't tell if it has to do with the exhaust manifolds shaking the truck or something else. I tried testing it: 1) it can't be the suspension. IF its on the road and I take my foot off the gas, there is no shudder. 2) it can't be the engine. If I'm sitting in park with the engine running and press the gas pedal, it doesn't shudder. COULD IT BE THE TRANNY? It only happens when I take my foot off the gas and press it again. HOWEVER it doesn't do it when I 'floor' it. It disappears slowly when I accelerate with my foot on the gas, but if I should take my foot off and put it back on when going uphill or at slower speeds, it shudders. Please help. I have doubts that its just the exhaust and I can't afford a costly mechanic.

Does your check engine light work? The obvious diagnosis is ignition breakdown, but if that happens, the check engine light should be flashing.
The check engine light isn't flashing. Someone told me today it could be the driveshaft u-bolt, without looking at it. Do you know if this is common for a 2002 F250 with 158, 000 miles?
It's not the exhaust. First step is to have the truck scanned for trouble codes. The PCM can identify a misfire and never set the check engine light.
If no codes the first step is to check the U-joints. You have to remove the driveshaft and check for play or binding in the joints.
correct! I did have the truck sxanned even though no check engine lights are on. A coil wasn't seated all the way and it appears the previous owner didn't screw it down. easy fix. I don't know why the shuddering didn't happen when I was flooring it in park...
