Was driving on freeway when I heard a noise- thought something hit the truck.
Was just 1/4 mile from getting off the freeway, when I hit my brakes and discovery hardy had any. Pulled over, raised the hood and found my belt was destroyed. Live only about a mile away and thought i could make it (I know, what a dum *** move). Never made it before the temp gauge got close to the red. Pulled over and called a tow truck.
What happened was the water pump gave out (311K).
I am wondering what damage I might have done to the engine (2003 6.0).
Shop said they won't know anything until a new pump is installed.
Can someone tell me what to expect.
Thanks
If there were minimal water escaping the cooling system when you pulled over the second time, probably no damage. If no water in the cooling system, you can only know once pump is replace and you test cooling system to see if there are any problems.
Don't buy trouble, get the new pump in and see what happens. If there was water in it, odds are in that time window the oil temps didn't get to the point of really damaging anything. If the plastic standpipe in the oil filter housing is intact and not melted, you'll hopefully be ok.
