I'm pretty sure I have an exhaust leak. Most noticeable when running 55+. If I take foot off accelerator, the noise (rumbling) almost goes away. What's the best way to find an exhaust leak? If I decide I don't want to repair it myself, maybe I should just take it to a muffler shop. Give me your opinions please.
Take it to a muffler shop, have them find it and give you a quote. If they find it and you decide to do it yourself you save money. I did mine earlier this week and they found that the PO installed passenger side header gasket was leaking. When I got home I broke out the wrenches and found that every single bolt in the header was loose and the gasket was destroyed. Even my spark plugs had black lines on them where the exhaust had been hitting them. Grand total was $25 for a set of header gaskets and $15 for bolts with allen heads because the hex heads whipped my butt. Not to mention where the headers emptied into the exhaust pipe those bolts were only finger tight too. When I got done the truck drove like a mustang it had so much power.
Thanks. I will probably have it all done at a muffler shop. I just broke my door handle today so there's something else to do. Dang it.

Door handles are cheap and easy to come by at most salvage yard or even new. Where do you think the leak is at. As I said before if you pull the boots off of your spark plugs one at a time it will leave a mark where its leaking. Is your exhaust factory?
I use a small diameter tube about 4' long. I put one end in my ear and then drag the other end around all the fittings and such till I hear the leak in my ear.

I ordered metal door handles off Ebay. I will try the plug wire removal trick for finding the exhaust leak soon. Thanks.
