How to remove windshield/rear window?

Okay guys, after much debate ( w/ the other voices in my head ) I have decided to remove my windshield and rear window. The only problem is, I have never removed glass before. Are there any how to videos out there ( era specific ) or threads in here that cover the process. I searched but maybe not correctly.

I'm not worried about salvaging the rubber since it needs replacing. I just don't want to eff anything up or have to buy new glass. The rear window is the kind with the slider middle.

The windshield has trim on it. I don't know how to remove that either.

From the outside, cut the seal crossways and peel back a "handle". Grab the handle and peel/tear off the outside lip.

Then gently and EVENLY push along the perimeter of the glass to separate it from the inside lip... a helper would be helpful to lift off the huge windshield.

..could also use bailing wire as a draw knife to cut any sealant if present.

Work smart!

I took a windshield out of the junkyard using only my buck knife.

Cut the seal and push it out.

I always cut the inside lip away then push the windshield gently out and have a catcher or two available. If you are going to paint the truck, cut the old lip on the out side away and tape up the windshield. Paint the truck then pop it out and put back in with new rubber. This lets you paint the opening and not have to try and tape paper to the thin metal lip.

When I got the rear glass out of a '69 Ranger last weekend, I took a razor knife and cut the weather strip/seal on the inside of the cab, peeled the lip off and pushed the glass outwards, towards the bed. It came right out --stainless trim still attached and all.

Yup, just cut the old rubber to remove. Simple job. Now installation, that's a more complicated process.

Yes sir. Reinstalling the rear glass is pretty simple but, getting the windshield back in can be a pain.

The back glass was broken out of my truck at the time I bought it (it just had a piece of semi-clear plastic tapped over the hole). My uncle had a spare rear glass from a '68 Ranger he gave me and it didn't take us long to install it.

Listen to the voices!!! Take a BFH and use it until you feel better. Once done call a professional. Oh wait, you want to save the glass, never mind.
