Not mine, but saw this while looking through CL ads and thought to share it here:

I'm speaking my thoughts about the engine, and what I would do with it:

8k for an engine I don't know, the shop that did the work, or the builder, or a million other things. And, I'm sure, there's zero warranty! I'd say it's a gamble.

V.cover nor dizzy say performance. The entire engine is a BIG question mark.

I hear ya. I didn't put it up there thinking it's any kind of a deal, but thought it was something for conversation. I don't know anything about the racer that built it and has since died; anyone heard of him? Maybe FTF knows a little bit about the guy.

I googled him and multiple lines come up including videos at the track.

Definitely cool if it's all authentic but, I agree with F-250.

However, what exactly about it would make it that expensive? He didn't list much of anything that I'm not already doing on my rebuild, and I'm probably going to be about $3000 out the door.

Fljab--Thanks for posting that. It is interesting to see any beefed up 300. As time goes by they are getting rare.

I wonder if the price is high b/c of the wow factor. If it was a big name builder who assembled the engine, then it is that builder's reputation the owner is trying to exploit. When, in reality, as AB mentioned, the same engine could be duplicated for about $3,000.

I haven't pulled up the specs on some of the combo, but noticed the 340 pistons and BBC 396 rods. I don't think I've ever read about using them in any kind of performance build.

I haven't heard of using those either. I'm curious what the reasoning is.

The 340 pistons are 4.040" stock and 396 rods are 6.135"
Ford 300 rods are 6.208" stock.

So, a little shorter rod, but not much else. Rod length can affect the dynamic compression ratio, so maybe it to focus on that?

Otherwise, it was probably just a combo that got them to the desired compression ratio. I know I looked through different engines/rods to find different combinations that would fit and achieve a desired compression ratio. Eventually, I used Ford 351 v8 pistons with older 300 rods to get to 9:1. Again, not particularly expensive.

Jerry was an upstanding guy and a friend of mine who taught me a lot about racing these sixes. I would have no qualms about buying something he built. He did some work on my crossflow heads from time-to-time. His work was always impeccable and his prices reasonable.

I do not know anything about this specific customer engine build. But I'd bet it was done right.

I'll miss Jerry. R.I.P.
