alright, so im trying to get the van set up for towing, already have rear receiver ordered, have a trans temp gauge in stock, and a larger oil to air trans cooler if needed, and brake controller on a wishlist to order when i need it (most of my towing consists of trailers with surge brakes) my last hurdle is figuring out whats up with the OEM trailer wiring.
sofar i am not finding that great of info, or its conflicting.
i assume i have trailer tow prep wiring here (picture below), the lower plug has the 4pin flat harness already plugged in.
what i am trying to get set up with is a 7way RV plug so i can tow trailers with brakes. i would like to find plug and play harnesses for the back and run with that OR if need be ill brake down and cut those plugs off and splice on what i need. i prefer to plug and play because of the nice weather pack connectors.
now as far as up front where do i find the plug under the dash for the brake controller? also i am assuming all i need to do is drop in a fuse and relay for the battery charge wire going to the back?
It's not a big deal. I did my 96 about 8 years ago, I think. I have a brake controller. I can go look for the under-dash connection for that if you need me to. Should be clear on the diagram blageurt sends you, but I could take a picture if you want.
Do yourself one favor: See that ground wire in the diagram? Disconnect that bugger, clean it up thoroughly (connector AND the screw AND the frame where it mounts), down to bare shiny metal, then give it a bit of dielectric grease to prevent corrosion, and put it back together.
Flaky grounds will give you all kinds of grief. They will make a hairy man bald.

yeah i haven't got to that ground yet, figured while im under there bolting the hitch on in a few days and have the spare tire out of the way be the best time to do it.
as far as the brake controller, i just need to know where (roughly) under the dash the plug is.
and under the hood, do i drop in a couple fuses and a relay or is there a part im missing that is not typically installed?
blageurt, PM inbound.
ultimately i need to sit down and order the factory books on this thing.
The trailer brake controller connector should be on the left kick panel just in front of the parking brake pedal assembly.
Since you already have the wires run down the frame, the relays and fuses should also be installed already but not always. Check the fuse diagram for your year model to know for sure which ones control the trailer lights & brakes. It should be as simple as that, making sure the correct fuses and relays are installed and then finish out the wiring from the harness in your first post back to the bumper.
on this PDF for the trailer wiring im trying to find the harness it shows on the lower left hand corner of the first page. what a little bugger that is to find! outside of google and ebay searching, any suggestions where to find it?
