I've just installed a receiver hitch on my 1997 F-250 4x4 HD and now must add a trailer brake controller. I was viewing the Valley trailer hitch web site and they have a brake controller for the '97 HD that will just plug right in to my existing wiring harness if it was equipped with the towing package. As I bought this truck used, with no bevy of information (owners manual, build sheet, etc.) how does one determine if one has the towing package or not?
It does have a 4 flat connector on what looks like a factory bracket at the rear of the truck by the rear bumper. Where do you look for the interior plug, if it's equipped with the tow package? Is the wiring also back there for the 12v positive, negative, and the trailer brake on (blue, I think) wire?
you look underneath where the steering colunm is and whaere ur fuse box is it should be a square or round gray plug mounted in he steel frame under there thats where it was on my old 95' F-350 PSD.
Im not sure all my trucks came w/the 7 point plug. but there should be a set of wires in the harness( blue, white, red, black, and one more). but if there is no plug in the cab there Shouldn't be any wires in the cab. then u will have to get the truck wired 4 a plug and a controller at a local trailer/truck shop.
Thanx again big ford. I had to take the truck to the local Ford dealer for the cruise control recall. They showed me where the plug is and now I'm set to go..... Thanx again...
