Quick question with random sensor?

Hey all. I got my heads back from machine shop and found my sensor was broken. Don't know what it is and need to get a pic
But maybe someone can help. The sensor location is on the passenger head towards the front of the head on the inside right side. Any help

Temp sensor for the high idle and cold start advance. Not overly critical, but it makes it a little easier to start.

Yup, that's (well it WAS) the cold idle/advance temp switch. Part # is E8TZ-9E939-A , $33-ish at AutoNation White Bear Lake.

Now let me ask. I have the manual glow plug relay. Does this sensor still need to be in?

It has nothing to do with the glow plugs. You don't NEED it, but without it, you won't have a faster idle and increased advance at cold start. It's also WAY easier to R&I when the thermostat housing is not installed yet, so now would be the time to do it if you decide you want its functionality.

as said, you do not absolutely have to have it, i ran my 88 for 200,000 miles without it hooked up.
but the engine will warm up faster and be easier cold running in the winter with it connected and working.

I had a quick question about this particular sensor. I assume it is a 1803082C2 E8TZ-9E939-A THERMOSTATIC SWITCH on my 1985 6.9, and there are three listed on Ebay, but their charts say it doesn't fit my engine?? Is that the right part number for an 85 6.9? It looks the same, is in the same spot.

^^^^ That's the right one. $35-ish at AutoNation White Bear Lake (nee Tousley).
